Vance Yaremko worked for SARDA from 1996 to 2006 as a Field Technician and was Manager from 2006 to 2009. From 2009 to 2012 Vance worked for a variable rate company, Echelon Ag Vance setup data files on various monitors used on the farm to collect and manage data using various software.

Vance also enjoys playing hockey, camping, and spending time with his three sons Logan, Nolan, Jacob and his wife Sara.

Kabal Singh Gill has B.Sc., M.Sc. and PhD in agriculture plus over 35 years of experience comprised of research, teaching, management and extension. Soil and agronomy are the main focus of his study and work.

Kabal has been working with SARDA Ag Research since October 2005. He has completed numerous applied research projects on soil and agronomy for a number of crops. He has been invited to give many presentations, and written several scientific publications, project reports and newsletter articles. Kabal enjoys speaking with producers, co-workers and industry professionals. Since coming to Canada in 1990, he has worked with Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, Olds College and Canada Revenue Agency. Before that he worked in India, Zambia and USA.

His publications include over 65 reviewed research papers, 25 proceedings of presentations, 5 course manuals, and 200 reports. He has done numerous presentations at local, regional, national and international meetings / conferences / workshops. On the personal side, Kabal is married and has 2 children and 3 grandchildren.

Shelleen Gerbig, BSA, P.Ag., Extension Coordinator

Shelleen was raised on a mixed farm north of Maidstone, Saskatchewan. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) at the University of Saskatchewan with a major in Animal Science and a minor in Crop Science. She worked for the Farm Debt Review Board and Farm Land Security Board after finishing her degree and during this time she completed the requirements to become a Professional Agrologist. After a short stint of travel and working for ADC, she started working for the MD of Smoky River, first as an Assistant Ag. Fieldman and then as the Ag. Fieldman. After 14 years with the municipality, it was time for a change.

SARDA was a fairly new organization, when Shelleen first shared their office building. She watched the organization evolve and their reputation grow. She worked with SARDA as the Ag. Fieldman and joined SARDA as a temporary employee, in May, 2008. Currently, Shelleen looks after the extension program and oversees the environment program for SARDA.

Shelleen's husband, Marc, and his brother operate a 5000 acre grain and oilseed farm near Falher. Marc and Shelleen have four children together. Shelleen can be found most falls operating one of the family combines.

Darcy Boisvert B.S.A. is the new Research Agrologist with SARDA Ag Research in Falher. The position consists of managing the day to day activities of the research trials and coordinator the field staff to make sure all of the tasks are accomplished. He has been in the agricultural industry all his life starting with the local family farm in Girouxville AB.

Darcy attended Lakeland College in Vermilion AB in 2011 and received a college diploma in crop technology. In 2013 Darcy transferred into the Agronomy program at the University of Saskatchewan and received his bachelor’s of science in agriculture (B.S.A.) in 2016. As a summer student Darcy assisted in small plot research with SARDA and did large scale research with Bayer Crop Science and BASF. After graduation Darcy worked briefly as an agronomist with Cargill and a territory representative with Dow Agro Sciences before coming full circle to begin his agricultural research career with SARDA. Darcy is currently living in the Girouxville area and plans to become more involved with the family farm.

Outside of work Darcy enjoys curling and camping with his girlfriend Whitney. With a large family in the area Darcy is often spending time with his parents Richard and Pierrette, his siblings Marc and Angela and especially his two young nephews Zachary

 

Khalil Ahmed, Ph.D., PAg., Research Coordinator

Khalil has a B.Sc., M.Sc., and PhD in Agriculture. He recently received a diploma in Environmental Sciences from NAIT, Edmonton. His key research interests are sustainable agriculture and protecting the environment.

Khalil joined SARDA Ag Research in May 2015 as an Environmental Coordinator and was recently promoted to a Research Coordinator.

He worked in the fertilizer industry in Pakistan, at the Agricultural Institute of Malaysia and at Integrated Crop Research Management Services in Fort-Saskatchewan.

He has published his research in various refereed journals and newsletters, and has presented in many conferences. His publications include 11 reviewed research papers, 15 proceedings, one book chapter, and several reports and articles. 

Apart from work, he enjoys playing cricket, and tennis, watching documentaries and watching YouTube videos on how to repair things. 

Victor Gauthier, Field Technician

Smoky River Applied Research Association (SARDA) has the privilege of having Victor Gauthier join the team as a Field technician. Victor will bring over 30 years of farming experience to assist SARDA with equipment maintenance and upgrades, equipment operation and ensuring that all research plots are seeded, maintained and harvested during the season.

Victor was raised on a farm south of Donnelly, Alberta with 9 siblings. He received a Diploma in Computer Systems Technology and a Diploma in Business Administration from Grande Prairie Regional College. Victor, his wife Anchalee, brother Daniel and sister-in-law Rhonda farmed 5400 acres in the Donnelly area. Victor operated a computer business for 20 years and a GPS business for 15 years. Victor has an excellent understanding of GPS, variable rate, field mapping, and data collection.

In his free time, Victor likes to spend time camping with his wife, Ying (Anchalee), and his three children: Mai, Nuoy and Alex. He also enjoys flying his quad copter and taking aerial pictures.
